Do You Need Certainty in Decision-Making?

 
Understanding why you may lack clarity in decision-making can significantly enhance your ability to make better choices. Here are some insights:

 

1. Mind vs. Body in Decision-Making

Achieving mental certainty in decision-making is challenging due to incomplete information and inherent uncertainty. Often, we perceive a decision as “right” because it appears reasonable, but this perception is influenced by limiting beliefs, external expectations, and past experiences. The mind favours the familiar and fears the unknown, creating arguments against new choices.

When the mind isn’t aligned with our body’s internal signals—expressed through sensations or intuitions—we tend to either suppress these bodily signals and follow the mind or get stuck in a cycle of doubt without taking action.

One of the most common limiting beliefs today is “I am very rational.” This is often celebrated as intelligence, but it can be an unconscious slavery to internal narratives, blinding us to other internal forces that truly awake our brilliance.

Reflect:

  • Have you made “reasonable” decisions while ignoring your body’s signals?
  • How many times did that decision not turn out well, making you think, “I knew it…”? For instance, saying YES to something that internally felt like a NO because it seemed more reasonable, only to realize it was indeed a NO.
  • How many times have you followed your body’s signals and failed?

Usually, decisions that feel right in your body lead to positive outcomes. Doubt arises when we let the mind decide, confusing our internal certainties.

The mind is for the “how,” not the “what.” Using it to make decisions instead of solving logistical issues wastes its potential. The mind should plan, create, innovate, and execute—not determine the path.

Key Tip: Make decisions from a place of internal coherence. Confusion arises when we prioritize the mind over the body’s signals; when we ignore our truth because we can’t explain it mentally; when we prioritize others’ values over our own; when we focus on potential negative outcomes, masking feelings of expansion with fear and anxiety.

Fear, generated by mental noise, dissipates when we engage the mind in planning steps to advance based on our decisions. Follow your body’s direction, even if the path to your goals isn’t immediately clear. This process expands what the mind considers possible, creating a fruitful cycle of freedom.

Clarifying Note: Fear is loud and paralyzing, while intuition is clear, calm, and non-insistent.

The Body as a Guide

Reflect and honestly evaluate if you lack clarity:

  1. What do I feel in my body?
  2. If I were certain everything would turn out well, which option feels freer in my body?
  3. What does my mind say?
  4. If I were certain everything would turn out well, what does my mind think?

If you still lack clarity or see no concrete options, it may not be the right time for clarity.

 

2. It May Not Be the Right Time for Clarity

Sometimes, it’s simply not the time for clarity. The more pressure you put on yourself to achieve it, the more distant it seems, as you focus more on the mind to resolve it.

For example, sometimes we know what we DON’T want but not what we DO want. Instead of focusing on what you DON’T know, focus on what you DO know and open space for something to spark your interest.

Opening Space: This involves facing the fear of emptiness. In emptiness and silence, clarity emerges. We believe that if we stop thinking and pressuring ourselves, we lose control and will never have clarity. However, attempting to resolve everything mentally makes us feel more out of control.

Observe how moments of crystal-clear clarity have arrived in your life. They likely didn’t come from overthinking, but from something that emerged from within, becoming evident without the need for explanation.

Trust: Believe that you will gain clarity when the time is right. Doubts always resolve or cease to exist over time. Let the mind express itself without getting caught in its narrative. Your body and intuition have never failed you, and eventually, the doubts will resolve.
