For long I thought that what “confidence” was about was: trusting something to happen as I expect it to. That quality of trusting plans and goals turning out my way.
Naturally, in the areas of life that flow, you rarely stop to question the possibility of desired results taking place. But in those where you are struggling for one reason or another, you try to reach out for that “confidence” on things turning out as you want.
However, having confidence is not an easy task when we think there is much at stake, there are many unknowns, or when feelings like fear and self-doubt are around. We obsess with the outcome, and focus all energy on making it happen. In these scenarios we are unlikely to allow a space for “confidence”.
But what if I’ve got this understanding of “confidence” all wrong?
Reading and listening to SriKumar Rao and Gary Zukav, I’ve realized “confidence” should not be about the goal being manifested as you want, but rather on getting the learnings and growth the chosen path offers. That growth will happen anyway, so we should set our confidence on that. As long as we try our very best, the path will be with ease and flow!
You see? We have the control over presenting ourselves to the world as our best possible version every day. But we don’t have control on things turning out as we want. Maybe, just maybe, some times what we think we want does not correspond to what is best in terms of what we need in our growth journey.
This has been a major shift in perspective. As each path we take will inevitably bring learnings and growth, having the confidence of that to happen in my best interest, dissolves my obsession on the result. Having a goal sets the direction and then I focus on taking every day steps in that direction, with the determination of doing my very best. This is intentional aligned action.
With the confidence on that, whatever turns out, I will have learned and transformed, I will be able to notice the gifts on the way. I will be prompt to integrate the learnings instead of fighting them. I’ll be travelling the journey with ease, grace and flow, and allowing the vision or something better to manifest.
This understanding has brought me great peace. I hope it sheds some light on you as well.
